In 1982, Chevrolet introduced a compact sport utility vehicle that would become a staple on the lineup for decades to come. In 1995, when the SUV entered its second generation, it got an upgrade to midsize status as engineers increased its size. But then in 2005, with the apparent death of the traditional SUV market, the Blazer was discontinued. Now, 14 years later, Chevy is reintroducing us to the nameplate with the 2019 Chevy Blazer in Green Bay WI, this time as a midsize crossover.
The Blazer was one of the most iconic utility vehicles on the market for decades, so even though conventional SUVs began to die off, it was still a heavy blow to fans of the popular nameplate. Although taking inspiration and a name from its spiritual predecessor, the all-new 2019 Blazer is very much its own vehicle, a modern crossover mixing space and performance with efficiency and great content.
Considering this is the first Chevy Blazer in nearly 15 years, we can’t exactly focus on what’s new in the vehicle as the answer would be everything. But we can cover a few highlights of the all-new Blazer, starting with its spatial specifications. The cabin offers 107.9 cubic feet of space for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in, while the cargo area behind the back seats offers a pretty impressive 30.5 cu. ft. of space to fill. Drop the second row flat and it opens up a whopping 64.2 cu. ft.
As for performance, the new Blazer can be equipped with either a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine capable of generating 193 horsepower alongside 188 pound-feet of torque while achieving 25 miles per gallon combined, or a 3.6L V6 that increases performance to 308 HP and 270 lb-ft. while only dropping efficiency to either 23 or 22 mpg depending on FWD or AWD system, respectively.
Of course, there are all sorts of great design cues, features and technologies that we could cover as well, but we’d be going on for days. Instead, just give us a call if you’d like to learn more or check out our blog. You can also schedule a test drive right here on our website!
