What’s the Difference Between the 2016 Ford Escape vs 2017 Ford Escape?

With the 2017 Ford Escape hitting showrooms sometime this spring, it’s a good time to start looking at the new model, and the previous 2016 Ford Escape. Which model of this powerful and well-equipped crossover SUV is the right pick for you and your family? We’re going to check out some of the highlights of the 2016 Ford Escape vs 2017 Ford Escape.

2016 Ford Escape vs 2017 Ford Escape

New efficient engines

One of the biggest changes coming on the new Ford Escape is under the hood. The 2016 Ford Escape was available with a choice of three engines: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, or a turbocharged 2.0-liter cylinder, rated for 168, 178, and 240 horsepower, respectively.

Two new turbocharged Ecoboost engines in the 2017 Ford Escape will replace those previously available, while the same 2.5-liter standard engine will carry over. A turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder will be standard on SE and Titanium trims, and a 2.0-liter twin-scroll Ecoboost will be available on those trims. Both of these engines will come standard with Auto Start-Stop, which allows the engine to shut off briefly when stopped at a light, and then smoothly restart.

Driver Awareness Technology on the 2017 Ford Escape

The 2016 Ford Escape has multiple driver assistance technology, but the 2017 Ford Escape is going to bring it to the next level. New safety enhancements that were not available on the previous Ford Escape include lane keeping warnings and assistance, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control with collision warnings and mild braking assistance, and even a driver alert system that will let you know when the vehicle detects signs of driver fatigue. All of these features will be available on select trims of the 2017 Ford Escape.

Safety and convenience technology that will carry over to the 2017 Ford Escape from the 2016 model include the BLIS blind spot warning system, intelligent four-wheel drive, a hands-free tailgate, and parking assistance
.

New 2017 Escape Connectivity Technology

Finally, the inclusion of SYNC Connect on the 2017 Ford Escape is a huge change. Not only is the 2017 model the first to have this technology, but it is the first Ford vehicle ever to feature this vehicle and smartphone integration system.
