2017 Ford Escape with Windshield Wiper De-Icer

New Windshield-Wiper De-Icer on the 2017 Escape!

2017 Ford Escape Windshield Wiper De-Icer

Remember when we talked about the 2016 Ford Focus RS winter tire package, and all the advantages that will offer to folk like  us in northern climates? Well, Ford is doing it again with a specialty de-icing technology that will be available on the new 2017 Ford Escape coming out later this spring. Keep reading to learn more about the new 2017 Ford Escape windshield wiper de-icer (say that five times fast!) and other technology on the new Escape.

The windshield wiper de-icer will be a standard piece of the Escape Cold Weather Package, which includes all-weather floor mats, heated seats and side mirrors, and a supplemental powertrain conditioning heater. This package will be standard on the Titanium level of the new Ford Escape, and available on the SE trim level.

How does the Ford windshield wiper de-icer work?

Optimized for melting light ice-and-snow build-up (you will, unfortunately, still have to clean your windshield by hand after a crazy blizzard), the Ford Escape windshield wiper de-icer features a heating element at the base of the windshield where the wipers rest. This system is designed to clear ice and snow in as little as ten minutes in as-low-as minus 18 degrees Fahrenheit.

“The windshield wiper de-icer is a great solution to one of the more nagging problems of winter,” said Jennifer Gauthier, Ford fixed glass engineer, in a recent press release. “Escape drivers in the U.S. are going to wonder how they ever got along without it.”

Even better, Ford SYNC users will be able to activate this de-icing system remotely through their smartphones, which means infinitely less hassle.

This is the first time that a windshield-wiper de-icer has been available on any SUV in the Ford line-up in the United States, but this technology should start becoming available on many other Ford vehicles in the future. Keep watching this blog for updates as we get them on new Ford technology and the arrival of the 2017 Ford Escape.
